Ahlul Bayt News Agency, Muslims of Jammu and Kashmir state are united and will not tolerate brutality against their brethren in the Kashmir valley any more, a statement from Jammu Muslim Coordination Committee (MCC) declared today.
MCC, which held a special session in Rajouri district Sunday, passed a resolution condemning the state action on the civilians in the Kashmir valley and impressed upon the Government of India to fulfill its promise of holding a referendum in the state to settle the Kashmir issue once and for all.
MCC, formed at the height of 2008 summer agitation has emerged as a major voice of Muslims residing in the 10 districts of Jammu division. The Sunday meeting, first after the current wave of protests broke out in the Kashmir valley on June 11, was attended by leading Muslim intellectuals, Imams and politicians from the region.
MCC president, Prof Zahurudin briefing media after the meeting said that, Muslims in Jammu region were concerned at the plight of people in the Kashmir valley.
“We will no more tolerate state action on the people of Kashmir Valley whose voice is being silenced by force and who have been made hostages in their homes for the last three months.”
“Indian government had promised to the people of this state that it will hold referendum and the promise has not yet been fulfilled”, MCC President said adding, 'New Delhi must now come forward and fulfill its promise”.
He said that 'all Muslims of Chenab Valley region, Jammu, Kathua, Poonch Rajouri, Samba, Reasi and Udhampur districts were united under the banner of MCC and we all are unanimous in demanding justice for the people of this state.' He called upon government to desist from using force on unarmed civilian population and instead begin a dialogue with them.
MCC spokesman Ashiq Hussain Khan said on the occasion that all Muslims of the state were united and they are not going to tolerate state action on the civilian population of Kashmir.
He said that the stone pelters in the streets of Kashmir were not militants but the government was suppressing their voice by brute force for the reason better known to it. He remarked that the voice of Kashmiris was genuine and it should be heard.
Earlier District President of the MCC, Abdul Qayoom Dar termed the situation of the Muslims in the state as unfortunate saying Muslims were being harassed in their own state despite they being a majority here.
